Now that I had had the experience of both an indoor and an outdoor Market, it was necessary to streamline the whole process. Just starting out, and not wishing to incur any debt forces you to be creative and use what you have. Basically, from the get go, I had everything I needed - basically.
I have the use of a truck. I own a trailer. Crates, tents, garden benches, tables, and a rotating inventory of over 400 pieces, all in place. I have a barn with a woodworking shop, a garage attached to the house, and a storage unit.
With everything in place, it's just a matter of gaining experience in logistics. With each new pop up shop I set up, I gained experience. I also gained the realization that in the world of pop up shops- it's adapt or die.
Every new market calls for an adaptation or variation of the process. Weather, on the Southern Tier of New York, is a huge factor that must be considered when setting up for the Market. Driving rains and gale force winds are a dose of reality no one really wants to experience first hand. Sunshine is wonderful, except when you are in an open field and it's 93 degrees, without even a hint of a breeze. So, with each new experience, I jot down a list of what went well, not so well, and absolutely what needs to be avoided in the future.
